Every year from 2011 to 2015, the Stuttgart Bach Week assembled an international orchestra and choir from over twenty countries – the Young Stuttgart Bach Ensemble, or JSB Ensemble. The main musical emphasis was on the work of Johann Sebastian Bach.

For the first time, the JSB Ensemble will be the resident festival ensemble of the Musikfest Stuttgart in 2017, focussing on »Freedom« as its theme. The JSB Ensemble will open the festival with the first concert, Bach’s St John Passion (2nd version of 1725).

There will also be two challenging Musikfest programmes for orchestra and a cappella choir. In addition, the JSB Ensemble will perform two Bach cantatas under the direction of Helmuth Rilling, founder of the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart, in the music festival series »Sichten auf Bach« (Views on Bach).
